short explorations

March-May 2023

These are class assignments where I focused on creative ways to implement, my rapidly improving abilities at writing, into stand-alone images. By exploring these deeply in standalone images, I can now implement similar strategies in my comics more confidently,

Starship Sunflowers Comic

May 2023

This is a journalistic comic, mixing collage and digital illustration, to tell the story of my trip to see the launch of SpaceX’s starship. It deals with my feelings of cynicism prompting the trip, and how my experiences along the way revitalized me and gave me a new sense of optimism. The metaphor of the sunflower, and how it withers and regrows, is the framing mechanism for this journey.

Grok spread

May 2023

This was the final for my foundations class on Articulate Anatomy. The character, Grok, is meant to represent how the solution to nihilism and the seemingly impossible, is often brutishly simple. I deeply researched all elements of the piece, taking inspiration from old European typography, scrolls, and insignia.

Akomen webcomic

2021

I started Akomen Senior year of high school. It was my first experience drawing at a production pace, for a responsive audience, and testing my skills. I learned a lot from the experience, learning: how to productively work on a long-term project, synthesize reader advice and consensus, and maintain a viewer’s attention in the fast-paced world of web comics.

The last Homo Sapien

Jan 2023

In this comic, I explore some of the problems I was grappling with, before making starship sunflower. The main character was not meant to express my legitimate views, but rather what the last man on earth might feel and think given an AI crisis.

OmniWorld

Dec 2023

In this comic, I transcribe an Interview with Archeologist and Professor Poala Dematte into a simple, but effective narrative that captures the essence of a pivital moment in our conversation.
